The HPS-type optical pressure sensor is specially designed to allow constant measurement of melt pressure during extrusion processes. DESCRIPTION
The HPS-type optical pressure sensor works according to a totally new patented principle in which no mechanical part is in relative contact.
This avoids any type of wear due to operation, significantly increasing the life of the sensor. Since the pressure signal is an optical signal transmitted via optical fiber, the sensor head can be installed virtually hundreds of meters from the signal processing box, making installation simpler and smoother. In addition, the sensor head can be easily replaced in case of diaphragm wear or if a different full scale is required for a new extrusion process.
This without changing the signal conditioning box – only a new calibration is needed.
This sensor head is designed to operate reliably at high temperatures, so it can be
placed directly in contact with extruded materials without the need for the aforementioned pressure transmission parts such as oil, mercury or push rod. This is done without compromising accuracy and hysteresis.
The sensor head can be easily cleaned, when needed, using a wire brush. There is no risk of damaging the diaphragm as the sensor head is made entirely of 15-5-PH steel alloy.
The use of an optical measurement results in a very wide operating band of> 30 kHz. A zero balance correction is available via a zero switch located on the signal box or via the rear output connector (see connection diagram)
APPLICATIONS
The HPS sensor is primarily designed for use in extrusion or compounding machines where melt conditions are mandatory for a reliable and consistent process. The measurement of melt pressure and temperature, when connected to the machine control system, greatly improves the consistency of production. It also acts as a protection for the equipment against high pressure bursting or mold breakage.
As there is no contaminating material inside the sensor head (mercury, oil), it is ideal for applications where this feature is of primary importance, such as medical products, food packaging.
